The summer heat clung to everything like a second skin, and Kayla had spent every sticky afternoon making sure Marcus noticed. She was twenty-two, home from college with nothing but time and a body that knew exactly how to move. Tiny denim shorts that rode up whenever she bent to water the plants. Thin tank tops with no bra, nipples stiffening in the breeze whenever she waved across the fence. She told him stories on the driveway—road trips with older guys she’d met at bars, how their hands felt rougher, how they didn’t ask permission the way boys her age did. Marcus was fifty-two, silver at the temples, jaw still sharp, arms thick from years of whatever work kept him fit. He’d watch her with those dark eyes, jaw tight, never quite crossing the line. Just nodded, smirked, told her to be careful out there.
The night before her solo cross-country drive, her old Honda died with a pathetic cough two blocks from home. Rain started spitting as she kicked the tire and cursed. Marcus pulled up in his black pickup like he’d been waiting for it. He got out slow, boots scuffing wet pavement, and leaned against the hood.
“Battery’s shot, kid. You’re not getting far tonight.” His voice was low gravel. “Crash at my place. I’ll drive you out myself tomorrow. Truck’s reliable.”
Kayla’s pulse kicked hard. She looked up at him through damp lashes, rain slicking her shirt to her tits. “You sure? It’s a long haul.”
“I’m sure.” His gaze dropped once, deliberate, then locked back on hers. The air between them thickened with everything they’d been circling all summer. Mutual hunger, age-gap and raw. She nodded, grabbed her bag, and followed him home.
His place smelled like leather and coffee. She showered quick, borrowed one of his old T-shirts that hit mid-thigh, and they sat on the couch pretending to watch some late movie. Her bare legs brushed his. Neither moved away. When she finally stretched out on the guest bed, she left the door cracked and slid a hand between her thighs, thinking about those big hands of his, the silver in his hair, the way he’d looked at her like he already owned the tease she’d been throwing.
