I never meant for any of this to happen. My name is Vanessa, and for two years I’ve been living a lie inside my own marriage. I’m forty-two, married to a good man who provides everything a wife could ask for, except the one thing I’ve started craving so badly it keeps me awake at night—his twenty-one-year-old son.
With Richard away on a week-long business trip and our daughter safely back at college, the house felt too quiet, too full of possibility. The air was thick and humid that Friday night, the kind of summer heat that makes your skin feel slick even before you step into water. I’d spent the afternoon convincing myself I was only being friendly when I texted Tyler: Hot tub’s calling my name. Join me if you want. Bring a towel.
I chose the tiniest bikini I owned. The black strings barely held in my full breasts, and the bottoms disappeared between my cheeks like an afterthought. I told myself it was just because it was so damn hot. I knew better.
Tyler found me already neck-deep in the bubbling water, the underwater lights painting soft turquoise across my skin. He stepped out onto the deck in nothing but low-slung swim trunks, and my breath caught the way it always did when I let myself really look at him. Broad shoulders, tight stomach, that V-cut disappearing beneath the waistband like an invitation. He was every inch the young man who had slowly taken over my fantasies.
“Jesus, Vanessa,” he said, voice already a little rough as he dropped his towel. “You trying to give me a heart attack?”
I laughed, but it came out shaky. “It’s just a bathing suit, Tyler. Don’t be dramatic.”
He slid into the water across from me, the bubbles hissing around his chest. For a minute we just sat there, the night air thick with jasmine from the trellis and the low hum of the jets. The silence felt dangerous. Every time I shifted, my breasts swayed beneath the surface, nipples already tight against the thin fabric. I could feel him watching.
Eventually he spoke, low and careful. “You know Dad’s gone till Thursday, right?”
“I know.” My voice sounded different in my own ears. “And your sister won’t be back for another two weeks.”
His eyes darkened. “We’re alone, then.”
The word alone landed between us like a match on dry tinder.
I took a slow sip from the glass of wine I’d brought out, then decided to stop pretending. I’d carried this secret too long.
