I still can’t believe I let it happen.
My name is Riley. I’m twenty-one, a sophomore studying graphic design, and for the last six months I’ve been renting the tiny attic apartment above Marcus Hale’s garage. The rent was cheap enough that I could actually afford it on my part-time coffee shop wages, but I knew from the first day that the price wasn’t the only reason I signed the lease. The moment Marcus opened the door to show me the place, something low and hot twisted in my stomach.
He was fifty-two, silver-haired, broad-shouldered, and still built like a man who spent his mornings in the gym instead of behind a desk. The kind of silver fox who looked better at fifty than most guys my age ever would. His voice was low, smooth, and carried the easy confidence of someone who had nothing left to prove. When he shook my hand that first afternoon, his grip lingered half a second too long.
“I like having young, pretty tenants,” he said casually, eyes drifting over me as he stepped into the attic bedroom. “Keeps the property feeling alive.”
I should have been creeped out. Instead my pulse thundered between my legs. I laughed nervously and pretended to inspect the closet while he stood behind me, close enough that I could smell his cologne—something expensive and woody. When he finally left, I locked the door, slid my hand into my panties, and came so hard I had to bite my wrist to stay quiet.
That should have been the end of it. A dirty little fantasy about my landlord. But Marcus started showing up.
First it was a new smoke detector he “needed” to install. Then the leaky faucet in the bathroom that suddenly required two separate visits. Each time he stayed longer, asked more personal questions, and let his gaze wander. I started wearing tighter shirts on the days I knew he was coming. I told myself it was harmless.
Then came the afternoon I got home early from class and found him in the narrow upstairs hallway, shirtless, wiping dust off the crown molding. His back was a map of lean muscle and faint scars. Silver hair dusted his chest and trailed down into the low waistband of his jeans. I froze in the doorway, keys still in my hand.
Marcus turned, saw me, and didn’t bother reaching for his shirt. A slow smile curved his mouth.
“Caught me,” he said.
